Marcos stance on Duterte impeachment ‘unchanged’ amid Enrile’s remarks

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s stance on the impeachment issue of Vice President Sara Duterte “remains unchanged,” despite warnings from the chief presidential legal counsel that Filipinos could face a “very detrimental precedent” if the logic implied in a recent rally is followed.

In a statement, foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei defended his country’s attack on Israel and “strongly condemned” the sanctions, saying they were “illegal and unjustified.”

For Akbayan Rep. Percival Cendaña, delays in the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte “embolden her to violate laws and aim for the presidency.”

Cendaña made the comment on the sidelines of a gathering of sectoral and religious groups at the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) Shrine on Thursday, Jan. 16, urging the House to act on the impeachment complaints against the vice president.

In an interview with reporters covering the House of Representatives, Abante said that the remaining session days before Congress goes on recess for the 2025 midterm elections’ campaign season might be too few to conduct impeachment proceedings, especially since the complaints are still with the Office of the Secretary General.

MMDA: Gov’t workers on adjusted work hours to ease Metro traffic

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will recommend to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. to place all national government agencies (NGAs) under the adjusted working hours implemented by local government units from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the move can help address heavy traffic and congestion in Metro Manila.

“Isa sa mga consideration sa pag-recommend sa Pangulo na i-cover na rin yung ating NGAs sana kung papayagan para rin siguro makatulong sa decongestion kasi nakita natin sa mga LGUs na nag-implement mayroong substantial improvements sa travel time hindi lang ng sasakyan pati ng mga empleyado,” Artes said during the Metro Manila Council (MMC) meeting.
